Engineering Manager at Xendit

Xendit provides payments infrastructure across Indonesia. Xendit processes payments, runs marketplaces, disburses payroll and loans, detects fraud and helps other startups grow exponentially. We provide these services through world-class APIs and  a dashboard UI that simplifies payments.  We serve some of Indonesia’s largest tech startups and international giants like Samsung.

Xendit's engineering teams work across multiple products and specialties, from product and infrastructure to security and data. Dealing with complexities that we have abstracted away from our customers, we with with banks, local cloud providers, ISPs, processors and central banks to make sure our payments are executed successfully, correctly and promptly. This role has high stakes, where moving information means moving money, and our people.
We're looking for an experienced manager to recruit and lead an  engineering team to build at scale, within six months.

1. Empower engineers to do their best work

2. Build an A-team of engineers that ships and operates critical payments infrastructure
  • Coach existing team
  • Inherit small, junior team and coach them to become excellent individual contributors, to contribute beyond their work and to lead as our organization grows
  • Build performance management framework: scorecards, 1-on-1s
  • Execute team culture within a “team of teams” framework
  • Set up and execute hiring until we have an infrastructure A-team
  • Build framework for hiring: scorecards, interview questions
  • Source five A-players that can pass CTO’s screen
  • Build a great team that can continue operating at the same speed and quality in your absence

3. Work with engineering teams to make sure products have enough resources to hit their targets

4. Conduct 1-1s with engineers and receive and deliver feedback

5. Align engineers on company objectives

6. Improve the productivity and operational best-practices of Xendit’s engineering teams
  • Maintain and improve Xendit’s CI tools
  • Build automation and internal tools that support development teams
  • Improve and develop operational best-practices for security and release-management across all team

7. Do whatever it takes to make Xendit succeed

You may be a good fit if

  • You have managed teams that have shipped and operated critical infrastructure
  • You have built product that has scaled on AWS or other cloud providers
  • Have at least 5 years of engineering experience with proven management wins
  • You thrive on autonomy and have proven you can push towards a goal by yourself
  • You communicate well across teams
  • Bonus points if you’ve built payments infrastructure before

What we care about

  • Solve for the customer first: You build what customers want.  You think about what is right for customers, not what is easiest for you
  • Demonstrate mastery of honey badgery: You make ambitious goals. Then execute…no matter what stands in the way.  When knocked down, you get up
  • Take on challenges willingly and can be trusted to execute: You can be trusted to get things done right the first time quickly.  You hit your deadlines
  • You’re like us: You smile a lot, think work is fun and don’t take yourself too seriously. You measure yourself against the best and believe feedback is the breakfast of champions.  You follow the golden rule
  • You’re remarkable: People naturally talk about how awesome you are.  If we can’t find someone who raves about you then it’s unlikely we will too
