Level Up Xendit's Engineering Team

Xendit provides payments infrastructure across Indonesia. Xendit processes payments, runs marketplaces, disburses payroll and loans, detects fraud and helps other startups grow exponentially. We provide these services through world-class APIs and  a dashboard UI that simplifies payments.  We serve some of Indonesia’s largest tech startups and international giants like Samsung.

Our infrastructure team works on Xendit’s server infrastructure on AWS, as well as on all the complexities that we have abstracted away from our customers.  It is responsible for working with banks, local cloud providers, ISPs, processors and central banks to make sure our payments are executed successfully, correctly and promptly.  It means maintaining connections to said banks, building mission-critical services and working around the myriads of failures, timeouts and issues associated with local infrastructure.  This team is one where the stakes are high, where moving information means moving money.

We're looking for an experienced manager to recruit  and lead an engineering team that can build infrastructure at scale, within six months.

1. Empower engineers to do their best work

2. Build an A-team that ships and operates critical payments infrastructure
  • Coach existing team
  • Inherit small, junior team and coach them to become excellent individual contributors, to contribute beyond their work and to lead as our organization grows
  • Build performance management framework: scorecards, 1-on-1s
  • Execute team culture within a “team of teams” framework
  • Set up and execute hiring until we have an infrastructure A-team
  • Build framework for hiring: scorecards, interview questions
  • Source five A-players that can pass CTO’s screen
  • Build a great team that can continue operating at the same speed and quality in your absence

3. Responsible for high quality, on time, on budget product delivery

4. Increase engineering employee engagement

5. Build and train engineering management team

6. Demonstrate and train engineering leadership

7. Work with the team to build tech infrastructure on AWS and local cloud providers that scales us from hundreds of  thousands to millions of monthly transactions, within 4 months
  • Find all the issues with our current infrastructure and propose a new future state with management buy-in within 2 months
  • Act as an individual contributor to build the proposed state on time
  • Product that you build has to:
  • meet mutually agreed SLOs
  • be deployed and scalable within a microservice architecture
  • have safe migration plan to move from existing system executing >500,000 transactions a month and growing
  • have verifiably high data integrity

8. Build top-of-the-line security into Xendit’s infrastructure
  • Ensure systems meet PCI/DSS compliance guidelines
  • Ensure systems meet local security guidelines required by licenses
  • Identify and address potential security improvements

9. Improve the productivity and operational best-practices of xendit’s engineering teams
  • Maintain and improve Xendit’s CI tools
  • Build automation and internal tools that support development teams
  • Improve and develop operational best-practices for security and release-management across all teams

10. Do whatever it takes to make Xendit succeed

You may be a good fit if

  • You have managed teams that have shipped and operated critical infrastructure
  • You have built secure server infrastructure that has scaled on AWS or other cloud providers
  • Have at least 5 years of engineering experience with proven management wins
  • You thrive on autonomy and have proven you can push towards a goal by yourself
  • You communicate well across teams
  • Bonus points if you’ve built payments infrastructure before
